Catching crayfish is a very entertaining process that can be easily mastered thanks to special traps for crayfish. The fishing season usually starts in June and ends in November, and it has long been noted that the best catch is guaranteed in those months that contain the letter "P" in their names. Of course, the quality of the result is more influenced by the reliability of the design of the fishing device and the bait.

How to make a do-it-yourself crayfish to get a great catch? There are many different trap patterns that work well, and most of them you can make yourself.

What do you need to create a simple trap?

The simplest home-made crayfish are based on the principle of wrapping metal frames with a mesh. To make such a trap you will need:

  • steel wire at least 5 mm thick;
  • nylon mesh with small cells;
  • nylon threads for fastening;
  • cutters.

How to make a crayfish with your own hands

The process of creating a trap itself consists of several stages:

  1. From the prepared wire it is necessary to bend two rings. The diameter of the first is 35-60 cm (it will serve as the base), the diameter of the second is 15-20 cm (upper part).
  2. The large ring needs to be covered with mesh, winding it to the rim with nylon threads every 1.5-2 cm.
  3. To secure a small ring over a large one, you need to prepare at least three spacers. To do this, three pieces of wire 15-20 cm long are cut off. One end of the spacers is attached to the base ring, the other to a small one.
  4. The side elements of the trap and the upper (small) ring are fitted with the free edges of the net, the device is fixed with nylon threads.

It is enough to attach a handle from the same kapron threads - and the simplest rachevny is ready!

How to make a crayfish bottle?

There are situations when, while relaxing near a river or other body of water, you suddenly remember that there are no special devices for catching crayfish at hand. How to be in this case? The usual junk material will come to the rescue. So, how to make a do-it-yourself crayfish from a bottle? For such a rachev you will need:

  • two plastic bottles of the same diameter;
  • knife or scissors;
  • an awl (or any other sharp handy tool) for piercing holes;
  • wire;
  • strong thread or rope.

The bottle shell is made as follows:

  1. Using a knife or scissors, the first bottle is cut into two parts (the cut is made just above the middle of the bottle).
  2. The second bottle is also cut into two parts, but the cut is made a couple of centimeters higher compared to the first one.
  3. Now the smaller cut off neck of the bottle, having previously removed the cap from it, must be inserted into the larger neck.
  4. With the help of a red-hot awl (or some other improvised object), you need to make five holes along the contour of the resulting workpiece.
  5. Next, another row of punctures is made, just above the previous holes.
  6. A wire is pulled through the holes obtained so that both necks of the bottles are securely fastened to each other.
  7. It is also necessary to make two pairs of punctures from different sides of the resulting workpiece in order to tie weights to the bottle.
  8. Now it is enough to attach a strong thread to the outer neck of the bottle to throw the rachev into the pond - and it's done!

Such a simple crawfish, the photo of which is presented below, can easily accommodate a couple of small crustaceans.

What does it take to create a more durable trap?

Those who are really keen on fishing and catching crayfish should take care of purchasing a more reliable host. How to make a do-it-yourself crayfish so that it is stronger and more durable?

For this you will need:

  • metal fine mesh in a roll (roll width 1 m);
  • metal scissors;
  • wire;
  • long ruler;
  • mittens to protect hands from cuts;
  • strong nylon thread or twine.

Creating a metal cradle

The process for making a more complex crayfish trap is as follows:

  1. A roll of metal mesh must be unwound on a flat surface and cut off a piece 80 cm long (it turns out a canvas 100 x 80 cm).
  2. The resulting cut must be rolled into a cylinder so that the large side is the height of the cylinder. The ends of the mesh are fastened together with wire.
  3. Next, you need to measure the diameter of the resulting cylinder (it should be about 25 cm).
  4. From the rest of the metal mesh, it is necessary to cut a semicircle with a radius of 25 cm. Further, a segment 5 cm long is laid off from the base of the radius, a circle is built (with a radius of 5 cm) and cut with scissors for metal.
  5. The resulting workpiece must be rolled up so that a truncated cone is obtained. We fasten the edges of the mesh with wire. The resulting cone is inserted into the cylinder (top inward) and secured with wire.
  6. A similar truncated cone must be attached to the other side of the cylinder.

  8. Next, in the future crayfish, you need to make a hole through which it will be convenient to put the bait and get the crayfish. To do this, approximately in the center of the cylinder, you need to outline a small rectangle (15 x 20 cm) and cut it from three sides. After the bait is placed in the trap, the resulting “door” is fixed on the notched sides with wire.
  9. Now you should tie a strong thread or rope to the edges of the cylinder - and the trap for crayfish is ready.

Now it's just a matter of picking the right bait (crayfish love the smell of rotten meat), heading to a pool of clean running water and setting a trap somewhere on a rocky or clay shore. Great catch guaranteed!
