Journalist Michael Coren wrote his daughter Lucy a touching letter, the text of which is able to empathize any childfree. You will learn about the content of the letter and why it made so much noise from our new material.

Girl who loves magic

The letter begins by mentioning one touching episode. When Lucy was a tiny child and only four years old, Coren took her to the Nutcracker in Toronto. There she was in her evening dress with a smile and enthusiastic anticipation. Then the music ended, the audience applauded, and the happy father and daughter left.

At that moment, she began to cry. Tears streamed down her tiny cheeks, and the girl expressed her deep sadness with her whole appearance. It seemed to our hero that his whole life was crumbling before him. "Why Lucy, why?" asked the young father. She seemed so delicately happy. “Because,” she said, sobbing, “because the play is over,” she sobbed a few more times. “I don't want magical things to ever end. I don't want the magic to end." Now it was Coren's turn to hold back his tears. But he managed to reply, "Honey, I promise you, I swear to you with everything I have, that the magic in your life will never end."

And indeed, Coren (like all good parents) did everything to keep his promise. Their relationship with their daughter has always been very sensitive.

Princess has matured

Then the child turns into a teenager who matures into a beautiful, successful 28-year-old woman who has lived everywhere from New Zealand to Paris and from Oxford to Canterbury. And now she's getting married.

Our hero has decided to give a speech at his daughter's wedding. He believes that parents have no right to look down on their children, and admits that in relations with his daughter, he himself quite often acted as a student. In the end, his transformation exceeded all expectations.

From conservative to liberal

In the second part of the letter, Coren admits that his daughter taught him to look at the world differently, and the message of all his lyrical memories was exclusively political. He remembers how boring he used to be. He was a staunch Roman Catholic, a conservative, a supporter of the traditional family. But thanks to her daughter, everything changed. Coren has now become a strong advocate for the mass migration of Muslims to Canada, gay pride parades and interracial (as well as same-sex) marriage. His world has changed: if earlier he preached Catholic conservatism and, in his own words, often offended people, now he triumphs over the spread of homosexuality in the world, welcomes numerous migrants from other countries and actively campaigns for leftist parties. The journalist believes that his new beliefs are real magic, and he is deeply grateful to his daughter for making him so. Why, however, it was necessary to make such a touching introduction for a banal political manifesto - it is not clear.

Politics is politics, love is love

Finishing the speech about his own political transformation, Koren sums up the fact that he loves his daughter very much and is immensely proud of her. According to him, magic has never disappeared from this world, it is in ourselves, and Lucy proved this to him, forcing her father to look at the world differently. He assured his daughter of his love and devotion, as well as that he would always be for her not only a father, but also a friend.

Afterword

A father's love is always very touching. Perhaps because it is underestimated by society (unlike, for example, from the mother). Nevertheless, a parent, recognizing the individual value of his own child, should not change his beliefs under the influence of the infantile problems of his own child. At least this is the subjective opinion of the author.
